Amanda and Caroline devised and ran a short project for a youth organisation, incorporating storytelling and visualising by means of video mixing. The group began with storytelling strategy exercises and quickly moved on to create a story together in a group. We then progressed to visualising this story through collage, stop frame animation, sound and text, uploading to a video mixing software and bringing it all together to form an abstracted version of their story.
Amanda received funding via the Big Lottery Fund from the Battlefield Community Gardens Trust and commissioned to produce a book and planting sculptures in the community gardens. Caroline is designing the book and Flaming Nora collective ran a workshop for children and adults to generate imagery for the book. Participants listened to stories relating to plants within the gardens and were directed to activities
involving those plants. We made square plaster casts of plants pressed into clay, making delicate and
beautiful relief casts. This was a wonderful activity that parents enjoyed as much as their children and the magic of the casting process enthralled all concerned. Participants spent time in the garden creating sculptural pieces from plant and found materials, drawing with chalk on surfaces, each creation inspired by the stories.
